  Solid Se8(AsF6)2 reacts with C2F4 at room temperature to form (C2F5)2Sex(x= 2 or 3). Se8(Sb2F11)2 gives similar products on reaction with C2F4 at 100 °C. In SO2 solution Se8(AsF6)2 and C2F4 give mainly (C2F5)2Se2 and C2F5Se2CF2C[O]F; the latter was characterised by its 19F n.m.r. and mass spectrum.

  The treatment of diselenides with different perfluoroalkyl iodides in the presence of sodium hydroxymethanesulfinate led to perfluoroalkyl selenides in fair to good yields. The reaction between benzyl perfluorooctyl selenide and chlorine, or sulfuryl chloride, gave rise to the corresponding selenyl chloride and represents an easy route to perfluoroalkylselenyl chlorides.

  olated arenes under metal‐free conditions is reported. The use of an organic photocatalyst enables the trifluoromethylselenolation of arene diazonium salts using the shelf‐stable reagent trifluoromethyl tolueneselenosulfonate at room temperature. The reaction does not require the presence of any additives and shows high functional‐group tolerance, covering a very broad range of starting materials.
