  The convenient synthesis of both enantiomers of the piperidine alkaloids such as dumetorine and epidihydropinidine is described. Pure enantiomers of 2-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester are used as a common starting material.
