    A medical and dental curable material is disclosed, which contains at least one of a-tricalcium phosphate and tetracalcium phosphate as a necessary ingredient. Conventional medical and dental curing materials containing a-tricalcium phosphate and/or tetracalcium phosphate as a necessary ingredient are unsatisfactory as to kneading workability and curing time since an aqueous solution of a single kind of organic acid is used as a curing agent. The medical and dental material of the present invention, which is satisfactory as to both kneading workability and curing time, uses as a curing- adjusting agent (1) tannin, (2) tannin and collagen, (3) collagen and organic acid, (4) tannin, collagen and organic acid, (5) tannin and organic acid or (6) at least two organic acids.

    Hardening materials are provided which show excellent kneading-processability and uniform filling property of their pastes and are controlable to moderate setting time. In addition, the pH of the neighborhood of the filled part immediately after filling into living body lies in a weakly basic region, and the materials are able to integrate into living hard tissue. The materials are made by combining a powder component containing at least tetracalcium phosphate and calcium hydrogen phosphate with a liquid component containing secondary phosphate and organic acid ions.

    This invention relates to a hardening material for medical and dental use, in which at least either one of α-tricalcium phosphate and/or tetracalcium phosphate is an essential component. Since the hitherto-known hardening material for medical and dental use, in which α-tricalcium phosphate and/or tetracalcium phosphate are essential components, have used an aqueous solution of one kind of organic acid as a setting solution, it was difficult to safisfy working efficiency for kneading as well as time necessary for hardening. Thus, the subject of this invention is to provide a hardening material for medical and dental use by which the working efficiency for kneading and the time necessary for hardening are satisfied. To solve said subject, the hardening material for medical and dental use relating to this invention involves, as a hardening adjuster, use of the following: (a) tannin and an organic acid, or (b) at least two kinds of organic acids.

    A bone substitute material is prepared by firing and pulverizing animal bones into animal bone powder, mixing the animal bone powder and a divalent metal compound into a powdery mixture, and kneading the powdery mixture with chitosan sol. Alternatively, a bone substitute sheet is prepared by mixing at least one of apatite and animal bone powder with chitosan sol into a mixture, forming a pre-processed sheet of the mixture, and neutralizing the sheet by an aqueous solution of a compound. The bone substitute material and sheet have a pH value falling within a neutral range.
