  A deodorized rubber additive comprising (1) a phosphorus-containing compound of formula wherein R, and R2 each represent an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or aryl group and X represents an oxygen or sulfur atom; or a sulfonamide compound of formula wherein R3 and R4 each represent an alkyl group of 1 to 12 arbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group or an aryl group, and (2) at least one material selected from fine particle iorganic fillers for rubber compounding, amine com- pounds, and metal salts of fatty acids. Vulcanisation in the presence of this deodorized rubber additive as a retarder, proceeds at a favourable rate with reduced emission of odours characteristic of the phosphorus-containing compound of formula (1) and the sulfonamide of formula (II).
