simple, metal-free, one-pot synthetic procedure involves the initial reaction of activated heterocyclic N-oxides with DABCO, followed by in situ treatment of the resultant quaternary N-(2-pyridyl)-DABCO salts with nucleophiles, resulting in ring-opening.
