[bmIm]OH: an efficient basic catalyst for the synthesis of 4H-benzo[d][1,3-]oxazin-4-one derivatives in solvent-free conditions

Reusable [bmIm]OH was found to be a highly efficient renewable homogenous catalyst for the rapid and convenient synthesis of benzoxazine-4-one derivatives from o-iodobenzoic-acid and benzonitrile at 75 degrees C in moderate to good yields. This methodology provides a facile and straightforward path to construct other related heterocycles in an eco-compatible fashion. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

‐Catalyzed Rearrangement of Aryl Peroxyoxindole into 1,3‐Benzooxazin‐4‐One
We report an FeCl2-catalyzed radical rearrangement of aryl peroxyoxindoles into 1,3-benzooxazin-2-ones to obtain a variety of aryl substituted 1,3-benzooxazin-4-ones in moderate to good yields. Mechanistically, this skeletal rearrangement of peroxyoxindoles proceeded via radical pathway and was well supported with a series of experimental findings and DFT studies.
