of electron-deficient alkenes with disilanes in acetonitrile gave silylated alkanes in high yields. The photosilylation occurred in a highly regioselective manner at the position β to the electron-withdrawing groups of the alkenes. With asymmetrically substituted disilanes and polysilanes, silyl groups bearing more bulky substituents were preferentially introduced to the alkenes. The photoreactions were
A novel skeletalrearrangement of tetrasilanes in the palladium catalysed reaction with aryl isocyanides gives 3,3-disilyl-2,4-disila-1-azacyclobutane derivatives, the structure of one example of which has been determined by X-ray crystallography.

Five new permethylatedlinearpolysilanes of the formula CH3[Si(CH3)2]nCH3, where n is equal to 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, have been prepared from the co-condensation of appropriate chlorosilanes using sodium-potassium alloy as condensing agent in a benzene-ligroin or benzene-n-heptane mixture. These compounds are all white crystalline substances. The melting points display a regular progression as the number

A process includes reacting an organometallic cuprate and a silicon precursor in the presence of a solvent. The process produces a reaction product including an organo-functional silane.
Irradiation of dodecamethylcyclohexasilane (1) in CCl4–CH2Cl2 in the presence of 9,10-dicyanoanthracene (2) afforded 1,6-dichlorododecamethylhexasilane in 70% yield. Fluorescence of 2 was quenched by 1 with a diffusion-controlled rate. A mechanism of free-radical chlorination involving (1)\overset+· is proposed.
