Polyether polyamino methylene phosphonate N-oxides possess high calcium tolerance and have been found to give excellent inhibition of the formation, deposition and adherence of scale-forming salts, especially calcium carbonate, under severe conditions which include elevated pH, high dissolved solids content, and high saturation levels of calcium carbonate.

Detergent compositions that contain an enzyme, alkaline source, and phosphonate or amine phosphonate salt are described here. A use solution of the detergent compositions containing disclosed phosphonates can retain its enzyme activity for an extended period of time. Specifically, one specific type of phosphonates and another specific type of amine phosphonate salts were discovered to stabilize enzymes in detergent compositions. Solid detergent compositions that contain disclosed phosphonate or amine phosphonate salts are more effective to remove soils and can save production and use costs.

Improved corrosion inhibitors for well brines include a phosphonate or salts thereof, and a gluconic acid or salts thereof. The inhibitors are normally injected downhole into the brines. The most preferred phosphonates are amine polyphosphonates, used in combination with alkali metal salts of gluconic acid.
