Hexafluoro-2-butyne reacts easily with the tin hydrides R3SnH (R = alkyl) to give mainly trans-R3SnC(CF3)C(CF3)H. The dihydride, (n-C4H9)2SnH2, reacts similarly. (CH3)3SiH and (C2H5)3GeH add to the butyne on UV irradiation. In the case of the silane a 1:2 adduct, (CH3)3SiCHCF3CHCF3Si(CH3)3, is also produced.
