examined two series of BF and BDF based compounds with an extended conjugation pattern and a half group producing a copper (II) ion-chelating tridentate site. A combined experimental and theoretical approach was employed in the examination of spectroscopic and cytotoxic properties. The novel compounds are emissive according to an aggregation-induced emission mechanism and exhibit the DR/NIR (deep red/near-infrared)

The synthesis of extended benzodifuran-thiophene systems connected by azomethine junctions is described. The electronic properties of these systems, studied by UV-vis spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry, are discussed in relation with the electron withdrawing groups grafted on the benzodifuran unit and the electron donor ability of the thiophene moieties. Benzodifuroxazinones, a new class of heteroacene molecules for possible applications in organic electronics: Synthesis, electronic properties and crystal structure
analysis, the molecules crystallize in a face-to-face (π-stack) arrangement instead of the herringbone structure typical of the most acene derivatives. The electronic properties of both molecules and crystals have been investigated by means of a detailed Density Functional Theory computational analysis: very stable HOMO energies have been calculated and, from the band structure analysis, it is possible

compounds showed interesting antiproliferative activity on different human cancer cells (HeLa, Hep-G2, WM266), whereas no relevant cytotoxic effect was observed on healthy control cells. To study the possible mechanism of action of the benzodifurans, their ability to bind various model DNA systems, their aggregation properties, and their ability to bind biologically relevant metal ions was evaluated.
