germylene-transition metal complexes of the type Cl2GeCr(CO)5·Ph2CNH or Cl2GeCr(CO)5·PhCHNOH stabilized by complexation with imine or oxime was investigated. New germylene complexes were obtained by reaction with amine or by reaction with bis(triethylgermyl)mercury. Such compounds were also prepared from germylene complexes Cl2M(CO)5·THF by exchange reaction with organogermanes Et3GeY where , OR, SR.
Abstract The new method of synthesis, employing the binuclear complex of tungsten(I) [(μ-GeCl2)W(CO)5}2] as a source of pentacarbonyltungsten moiety, was used in synthesis of a thermally labile ethene complex of tungsten(0). The crystalstructure of [W(CO)5(η2-C2H4)] (1) has been established by X-ray diffraction studies.

Photochemical reaction of W(CO)6 with GeCl4 as a source of germyl and germylene compounds acting as initiators for ring-opening metathesis polymerization of norbornene
(ROMP) of cyclic olefins, their reactivity towards norbornene has been studied. In chloroform-d1 solution the ROMP reaction is accompanied by the formation of a new olefin, 2,2′-binorbornylidene (bi-(NBE)), as a result of carbene–carbene coupling. In reaction of norbornene carried out in benzene solution the ROMP reaction is accompanied by the formation of 2-phenylnorbornane (hydroarylation product)
