(EN) Electrochromic compounds capable of reversibly attenuating the transmittance of the near infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum are provided. Theses compounds exhibit an energy difference between the singly occupied molecular orbital (SOMO) energy and the highest doubly occupied molecular orbital (HDOMO) energy (ESOMO-EHDOMO) of less than about 3.6 eV. In addition, these compounds have a transition moment of the configuration made up of the HDOMO and SOMO that is 'long axis polarized'.(FR) L'invention concerne des composés électrochromiques capables d'atténuer de manière réversible la transmittance de la partie du proche infrarouge d'un spectre électromagnétique. made to the structures of related neutral tripodalligands. Spectroscopic and magnetic studies of these complexes are also described. The Cu(I)-carbonyl complexes [Cu(LMe)(CO)]PF6 and [Cu(Me6tren)(CO)]PF6 (Me6tren = tris(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl)amine) have also been prepared. Infrared spectroscopic investigations of these carbonyl complexes confirm that LMe is a less electron donating ligand than Me6tren
