A chiral allylating agent, readily generated from tin(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate (tin(II) triflate), chiral diamines derived from (S)-proline and allylaluminum, is efficiently employed in the asymmetric allylation of aldehydes and an epoxide. Reaction of a chiral 2-methyl-2-propenylating (methallylating) agent with aldehydes also proceeds smoothly to afford the corresponding homoallylic alcohols
New preparation of benzylic zinc reagents via a fragmentation reaction

fragmentation of sterically hindered homobenzylic zinc alcoholates proceeds readily leading to benzyliczinc reagents free from any Wurtz-coupling product. Reaction of these organometallic intermediates with various aldehydes produces new homobenzylic alcohols in moderate to good yields. A 1,4-addition of these newly prepared benzylicorganometallics to an alkylidenemalonate is also reported.
