We have developed a new base-promoted intermolecular cascade cyclization reaction of substituted 3-aryl(heteroaryl)-3-chloroacrylaldehydes and tetrahydroisoquinolines in one pot. The reaction provides a facile and practical synthesis of pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines. A number of pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines were synthesized in moderate to high yields (up to 97%).

The synthesis of α-substituted β-aryl-β-haloacroleins by two different pathways is presented. The determination of their stereochemistry by NOE experiments is reported for the first time. Furthermore, we describe the preparation of 2-en-4-ynecarbaldehydes and access to rubrolide derivatives from β-aryl-β-haloacroleins.

A simple and useful procedure for the synthesis of azirinescontainingaldehydefunctionality from open chain bromo/chloro-aldehydes at room temperature is reported. The scope of the ring expansion reaction of a number of 3-substituted-2-formyl-azirines has been examined using different oraganometallic catalysts and a variety of Lewis acids.
A New Synthesis of 2-Alkylthiopyrylium salts 2-Alkylthiopyrylium salts are available in good yields via Aldol condensation reaction of β-chlorovinylaldehydes (carbonyl component) with acetone or α-methylene ketones (methylene component) followed by nucleophilic substitution reaction of the chlorine atom in the 4-acyl-1-chloro-1,3-butadienes by means of sodium sulfide and further cyclization of the resulting 4-acyl-1-mercapto-1,3-butadienes.
