This invention relates to novel dermatologically active androstadienes of the formula
wherein M is a benzyl, phenethyl, methylbenzyl, dimethylbenzyl, chlorobenzyl or dichlorobenzyl group or an alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms,
X is a hydrogen or fluorine atom,
Y is an oxygen atom, or, provided that X is a hydrogen atom, Y can also be (H,H),
and n is 1 or 2,
to processes for their preparation, and to pharmaceutical compositions containing them; and also to related androstadienes useful as intermediates in their preparation.
The novel compounds of the formula IA can be used in particular in the treatment of acne.
