CO2 reduction catalytic properties of rhenium-based catalysts are investigated herein. In particular, the electro- and photocatalytic CO2 reduction features of [Re(CO)3(bpy)Cl] (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) are compared with the activity of [Re(CO)3(phen–PNI)Cl] (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), which is known for its long excited-state lifetime.
