  [EN] The invention relates to a transgenic plant overexpressing a polynucleotide encoding a plant GTP cyclohydrolase I (GTPCHI) enzyme. The present invention also relates to a product comprising the transgenic plant of the invention or a harvestable part, plant organ, plant tissue, plant cell, seed, or a propagule of said plant. The present invention further elucidate the use of the plant of the invention to cross breed with other plants, as biofortification to enrich the quality of the food intake of an animal or human subject, for the manufacture of a medicament to prevent folate insufficiency, or, for the treatment of folate insufficiency or diseases or disorders resulting from said insufficiency in an animal or human subject.
  [FR] La présente invention concerne une plante transgénique surexprimant un polynucléotide codant pour une enzyme GTP cyclohydrolase I (GTPCHI) de plante. L'invention porte sur un produit contenant la plante transgénique de l'invention ou une partie exploitable, un organe végétal, tissu végétal, cellule végétale, graine ou propagule de ladite plante. L'invention a trait en outre à l'utilisation de la plante de l'invention en vue d'effectuer des croisements avec d'autres plantes, telle la biofortification, afin d'enrichir la qualité des aliments consommés par un sujet animal ou humain, en vue de produire un médicament qui prévient toute carence en folates ou en vue de traiter une carence en folates ou des maladies ou des troubles induits par ladite carence chez un sujet animal ou humain.
