  Treatment of 2,5-dibromo-3,4-di-tert-butylthiophene with tert-butyllithium followed by reaction with triisopropylsilyl chloride gave a highly congested thiophene, 3,4-di-tert-buty-2,5-bis(triisopropylsilyl)thio-phene, whose thiophene ring is no longer planar.
