  Polyarylated benzene derivatives are useful molecular entities in chemical and material sciences owing to their unique photophysical properties associated with them. In this Letter, we report that 2-acetyl-benzofuran in the presence of Amberlyst 15 at reflux temperature furnished a mixture of dimer, trimer. and tetramer with interesting conformational properties. The protocol was generalized to prepare diverse arylated benzene scaffolds in good yields under similar reaction conditions. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
