  Abstract2-Polyfluoroalkylchromones react with aliphatic 1,2-diamines to give 2,3-dihydro-1H-1,4-diazepines. A similar reaction with 1,3-diaminopropane yieldsN,N′-trimethylenebis(2-hydroxyacetophenomines) as a result of scission of the original chromones.

  The reaction of 2-polyfluoroalkylchromones with ketimines, derived from aromatic methyl ketones and isopropyl­amine, gives 2,6-diaryl-4-polyfluoroalkylpyridines in moderate to low yields. Benzamidine and guanidine also react with 2-polyfluoroalkylchromones to afford the corresponding 2,6-disubstituted 4-polyfluoroalkylpyrimidines.

  Polyhaloalkyl-substituted chromones, γ-pyrones, and β-furanones react with salicylaldehydes in the presence of piperidine to give a wide variety of fused 2H-chromenes in good yields. This novel annulation reaction presumably proceeds by a tandem intermolecular oxa-Michael addition and subsequent intramolecular Mannich condensation.

  2-Polyfluoroalkylchromene-4(4H)-thiones, synthesized from 2-polyfluoroalkylchromones and P2S5, react with aniline, phenylhydrazines, and hydroxylamine at the C(4) atom and afford corresponding anils, phenylhydrazones, and oximes of chromones. On heating in alcohol in the presence of concentrated HCl, chromone phenylhydrazones and oximes undergo ring closure to form 3-(2-hydroxyaryl)-1-phenyl-5-polyfluoroalkylpyrazoles and 5-hydroxy-3-(2-hydroxyaryl)-5-polyfluoroalkyl-Δ2-isoxazolines.
