anti-1,2-diarylation of diarylacetylenes is described. The key intermediates, trans-1,2-dizincioalkenes, are prepared by sodium-promoted reductive anti-1,2-dimagnesiation of alkynes and the subsequent transmetallation to zinc. The present reaction enables the stereoselective synthesis of tetraarylethylenes which have been difficult to prepare according to the conventional methods.
