Reaction of 3, 6β-diacetoxycholest-2-ene (2) with cesium fluoroxysulfate gave 6β-acetoxy-2α-fluorocholestan-3-one (3), which was successfully converted to 2α-fluorovitamin D3 (10). A single dose of 500 ng of 10 produced an intestinal calcium transport response and a bone calcium mobilization response in vitamin D-deficient rats equivalent to those of vitamin D3.
