This method achieves a high sensitivity and an excellent selectivity.

    A method and an apparatus for conveniently detecting at a high sensitivity an extrinsic endocrine disrupter which is a so-called environmental hormone, and enabling detection at a high sensitivity of an extrinsic endocrine disrupter (environmental hormone) existing in the environment with a low concentration to be conveniently carried out. The present invention includes: a detection container (1) having an immobilized female sex hormone receptor (2) such as an immobilized estrogen receptor filled therein; a light source (3) for exciting the inside of the container; and a detector (4) detecting a fluorescence intensity in the detection container after excitation. A fluorescence intensity F0 detected when a fluorescent-labeled female sex hormone having a certain concentration is added into the detection container is compared with a fluorescence intensity F1 detected when a fluorescent-labeled female sex hormone having the same concentration and being mixed with a sample to be tested is added into the detection container, and it is determined that an environmental hormone exists in the sample if F1 < F0 is established. Further, the female sex hormone can be also detected by the antigen-antibody reaction utilizing an anti-hormone antibody relative to the female sex hormone.
