  Optically active 3-alkyl-3-hydroxymethy1-5-vinyltetrahydrofurans were synthesised from the corresponding methyl or isobutyl carbonates of omega,omega-bis(hydroxymethyl)-alpha,beta-unsaturated alcohols via palladium-catalysed cyclisation.
