    The present invention relates to a process for the conversion of oxygenates to olefins comprising (i) providing a gas stream comprising one or more oxygenates; and (ii) contacting the gas stream with a catalyst; wherein the catalyst comprises a zeolitic material having an MFI, MEL, and/or MWW-type framework structure comprising YO 2 and X 2 O 3 , wherein Y is a tetravalent element, and X is a trivalent element, said zeolitic material being obtainable and/or obtained according to a method comprising (1) preparing a mixture comprising one or more sources for YO 2 , one or more sources for X 2 O 3 , and one or more solvents; and (2) crystallizing the mixture obtained in step (1) to obtain a zeolitic material having an MFI, MEL and/or MWW-type framework structure; wherein the mixture crystallized in step (2) contains 3 wt.-% or less of the one or more elements M based on 100 wt.-% of YO 2 , wherein M stands for sodium.

    In a method of synthesizing a silicoaluminophosphate or aluminophosphate molecular sieve comprising a CHA framework-type material, a synthesis mixture is provided comprising a source of aluminum, a source of phosphorus, optionally a source of silicon and at least one organic template of formula (I): [R 1 R 2 R 3 R 4 N] + X − (I) wherein each of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , and R 4 is independently an acyclic alkyl group having at least one carbon atom, the total number of carbon atoms in said alkyl groups R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , and R 4 is greater than 8 but less than 16, and X − is an anion. The synthesis mixture can then be crystallized to produce the desired molecular sieve.

    Lanthanum silicate catalyst composites having, in terms of oxide mole ratios, the composition: 0 - 0.3 M₂O : La₂O₃ : 30-200 SiO₂ in which M is a monovalent cation. Such catalyst composites are made by reacting a lanthanum compound, an alkali metal compound and a silicon compound with a tetraalkyl ammonium salt of the formula: R¹xR²yN⁺Z in which R¹ and R² are C₂-C₄ alkyl groups, x and y are integers from 1 to 3 such that x + y is 4, and Z is a bromide or hydroxide ion, in an aqueous sulphuric acid medium to form a gel, heating the gel at a temperature of 100°C to 200°C, and filtering, drying and calcining the resulting solid material. These materials are effective catalysts for the conversion of lower alcohols to lower olefins.
