  Sugar epoxides are transformed in almost quantitative yields, under mild reaction conditions, into their corresponding unsaturated monosaccharides by reaction with O,O-dialkylphosphoroselenoic acids salts. A mechanism involving the formation of a penta-coordinate phosphorus intermediate is proposed.
