Two photoluminescent coordination polymers based on naphthalene-1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic acid 4,5-anhydride

Two cadmium(II)-ntcaa coordination polymers, [Cd(phen)(ntcaa)(H2O)(2)](n) (1) and [Cd-2(4,4'-bpy)(ntcaa)(2)](n) (2) (ntcaa = naphthalene-1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic acid 4,5-anhydride, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, 4,4-bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine), were synthesized via hydrothermal method. The structure of compound 1 is a neutral comb-like chain with pi-pi interactions between the phen and naphthalene aromatic rings, while that of 2 possesses an interesting baluster structure composed of helix chain as post and 4,4'-bpy as connector. Photoluminescent investigations reveal that both compounds exhibit strong emissions in the solid state. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
