    A polysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene composition of the nominal formula: wherein R is an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms and R°, R', R" and R" are individually monovalent polyoxyalkylene polyethers attached to the silicon atom through a difunctional link; and the polyoxyalkylene of R' is a poly(oxypropylene-oxyethylene) ether which contains 20% to 60% oxyethylene by weight and has an average molecular weight of from about 3,000 to about 5,500: the polyoxyalkylene of R" is a poly(oxypropylene-oxyethylene) ether which contains 20% to 60% oxyethylene by weight and has an average molecular weight of from about 800 to about 2.900; and the polyoxyalkylene of R"' is a polyoxypropylene polyether having an average molecular weight from about 130 to about 1200; R° can be R', R". or R". a and e are individually 0 or 1; b, c, and d are numbers such that b + c + d = y, x and y are positive numbers such that the sum of x+y ranges from 25 to 400 and x is greater than y; wherein the ratio (b + c):d ranges from 0.8 to 1.9.

    Heteroatom containing perfluoroalkyl terminated neopentyl glycols of the formulas HO[-CH₂C(CH₂X-E-Rf)₂CH₂O]₁₋₃-H or HO[-CH₂C(CH₂X-Rf)₂CH₂O]₁₋₃-H are prepared from halogenated neopentyl glycols or oxetanes and thiols of the formula Rf-E-­SH, amines of the formula Rf-E-NH-R, alcohols of the formula Rf-E-OH or perfluoro-amides, wherein Rf is a straight or branched chain perfluoroalkyl of 1 to 18 carbon atoms or said perfluoroalkyl substituted by perfluoroalkoxy of 2 to 6 carbon atoms. The polymeric reaction products of said fluorinated diols, and optionally other diols with isocyanates to prepare polyurethanes; with amines and isocyanates to prepare polyureas/polyurethanes; with acids or derivatives to prepare polyesters or polycarbonates are disclosed. These include polymeric, random or block urethane, and/or urea, and/or ester compositions containing the residue of at least one Rf-­neopentyl glycol containing two perfluoroalkyl hetero groups. These polymeric compositions provide improved thermal stability and useful low surface energy oil and water repellent coatings, and soil-release properties for textiles, glass, paper, leather and other materials.

    Pourable polymers having desirable properties are obtained by co-polymerising (a) a lactone or corresponding aliphatic hydroxyacid (b) cyclic dimeric ester of an α-hydroxyacid or the corresponding α-hydroxyacid, in which the mole ratio of (a) to (b) is greater than 1.5 : 1 and their viscosity is less than 2000cps. The polymers can further be reacted with isocyanates to form polyurethanes having desirable properties.
