(A) reacting at least one acid component selected from di- and polycarboxylic acids and anhydrides thereof and at least one polyhydroxy component selected from polyalkylene glycols, copolymers and derivatives thereof to form a polyalkylene glycol ester; and
(B) reacting the obtained polyalkylene glycol ester having carboxylic acid functionality with a phenolic resin.
