ESR data of the complexes Fe(NO)2SbR3Br (R = C2H5, C6H5, and 4—(H3C)2NC6H4) in solution are presented. The observed hyperfine coupling due to bromine and antimony is interpreted including second order contributions. Nuclear quadrupole effects are discussed and found to be detectable in the antimony hyperfine pattern.
Reported here is a new synthetic method of triarylmetals MAr3 (M = As, Sb, Bi). It is composed of two-step reactions starting from the metal oxides: (1) A reaction of the metal oxide with 2,6-dimethoxybenzenethiol Phi SH [Phi = 2,6-(MeO)(2)C6H3] in the presence of acid to give the thiolatometals M(S Phi)(3), and (2) A reaction of M(S Phi)(3) with organolithium reagent LiAr to give MAr3 (Ar = Ph, 4-MeC6H4, 4-Me2NC6H4, Phi). Since Phi SH is odorless and crystalline, most of it can be recovered after the reactions without difficulty for repeated usages. The intermediates M(S Phi)(3) are also crystalline and inert against hydrolysis. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.

Tris(4-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl) antimony dicarboxylates (4-Me(2)NC(6)H(4))(3)Sb[OC(O)R](2) (R = C(6)H(4)Me-2 (I), C(6)H(4)Me-4 (II), CH=CHPh (III)), (4-Me(2)NC(6)H(4))(3)Sb[OC(O)C(O)O] (IV), and (4-Me(2)NC(6)H(4))(3)Sb[OC(O)C(6)Cl(4)C(O)O] (V)) and tris(4-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl)antimony diaroxides (4-Me(2)NC(6)H(4))(3)Sb(OAr)(2) (Ar = Ph (VI), C(6)H(2)Br(3)-2,4,6 (VII), and C(6)H(3)Me(2)-2,6 (VIII)) have been synthesized by the reaction of tris(4-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl) antimony in ether with carboxylic acids or phenols in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. According to X-ray diffraction analysis data, the Sb atoms in compounds I and VII have a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal coordination, and the axial OSbO angles are 175.4(1)degrees and 177.9(3)degrees, respectively. The Sb-O bond lengths are 2.133(3) and 2.142(2) angstrom in compound I and 2.089(5) angstrom in compound VII.
