    Electrochemically reduced Ni(bipy)3(BF4)2 catalyzes the reaction of carbon dioxide with disubstituted alkynes to yield mono- and di-carboxylated derivatives. The reaction is performed under mild conditions in an undivided cell fitted with a sacrificial magnesium anode.

    excellent total yields (82–94%). Under anhydrous conditions, an unsaturated aryl-maleic anhydride as the main product was obtained, while the presence of H2O would lead to the formation of saturated 2-arylsuccinic acids. The results of cyclic voltammetric experiments show that a nickel cathode itself plays the catalytic role in the reduction reaction of arylacetylenes with CO2.

    -propyl)pyrrolidine 13 trans-3-(3-Hydroxyphenyl)-4-methyl-1(n-propy)pyrrolidine 14 were synthesized and evaluated for dopaminergic activity. The stereochemical assignments of 13 and 14 were determined by nmr. Both 13 and 14 were either inactive or weakly active in most dopaminergic tests.

    ring-opening carboxylation of styrene carbonates with CO2 to achieve dicarboxylic acids and/or β-hydroxy acids has been developed via the selective cleavage of the C(sp3)–O bond in cyclic carbonates. The product selectivity is probably determined by the stability and reactivity of the key benzylic radical and carbanion intermediate.
