Highly enantio- and diastereoenriched monofluorocyclopropanes were accessed via the Simmons-Smith fluorocyclopropanation of allylicalcoholsusing difluoroiodomethane and ethylzinc iodide as the substitutedcarbenoid precursors. We report the study of the electronic structures of CHBrFI and CHClFI using HeI/HeII photoelectron spectroscopy. The orbital interactions are discussed on the basis of high-level quantum chemical calculations and empirical arguments.

described. Mercuric fluoride was found to be an effective fluorinating agent in fluorinations of CHI2Br (6) and CHI2Cl (8) to yield CHBrFI, CHClFI, respectively. Chlorination of CHI2Br (6) by using antimonypentachloride as a chlorinating agent, afforded CHBrClI in convenient and mild condition.
