    (EN) The invention relates to new tricyclic 2,3-benzodiazepine derivatives of general formula (I), stereoisomers and acid addition salts thereof and to pharmaceutical compositions containing the same, wherein the main substituent meanings are as follows: R1 and R2 represent independently hydrogen, halogen, a C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy, nitro, trifluoromethyl or optionally substituted amino group, X represents hydrogen or chlorine atom, Y represents chlorine or bromine atom, A represents a 5-membered heterocyclic group containing 1 to 3 nitrogen atoms. The compounds are suitable for treating conditions associated with muscle spasms, epilepsy as well as acute and chronic forms of neurodegenerative diseases.(FR) L'invention concerne de nouveaux dérivés de 2,3-benzodiazépines tricycliques de la formule générale (I), leurs stéréoisomères et leurs sels d'addition d'acide ainsi que des compositions pharmaceutiques les contenant, formule dans laquelle les définitions des principaux substituants sont telles que ci-après: R1 et R2 représentent indépendamment hydrogène, halogène, un groupe alkyle C1-4, alcoxy C1-4, nitro, trifluorométhyle ou amino facultativement substitué, X représente un atome d'hydrogène ou de chlore, Y représente un atome de chlore ou de brome, A représente un groupe hétérocyclique à 5 éléments contenant 1 à 3 atomes d'azote. Les composés sont adaptés au traitement d'états associés aux spasmes musculaires, à l'épilepsie ainsi qu'à des formes aigues et chroniques de maladies neurodégénératives.

    The oxa-Pictet-Spengler reaction with various aldehydes and -arylethanol yields 1-substituted-isochromans in the presence of bismuth triflate as catalyst in good yields. The method was extended to O,O-acetals to afford the corresponding 1,1-disubstituted-isochromans in good yields. These studies also provide insights into the catalytic role of triflic acid generated upon hydrolysis of Bi(OTf)3 by residual water. The low toxicity and easy handling of Bi(OTf)3 by comparison with triflic acid make these procedures an attractive method to provide isochromans in good to excellent yields.
