    Provided are a colorant represented by the following Formula (I) which is excellent in a color intensity and a lightfastness, a microcapsule pigment prepared by using the above colorant, and an ink composition for writing instruments: [in Formula (I) described above, X and Y represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a halogen atom; and X and Y may be identical or different from each other, provided that a case in which both of X and Y are a hydrogen atom is excluded]. The above microcapsule pigment is characterized by comprising at least the colorant comprising the leuco dye represented by Formula (I) described above, a developer and a chromic temperature controller, and the ink composition for writing instruments is characterized by comprising the above microcapsule pigment.

    Provided is a microcapsule color material prepared by using a leuco dye, wherein the microcapsule color material is increased in a freedom of material selection in selecting a discoloring temperature controller and expanded in a freedom of setting in setting an amount thereof in the microcapsule color material prepared by using the leuco dye, and it attempts to be reduced in a load of manufacturing and improved in a diversification in thermal discoloration and can be further raised in a utilization of a microcapsule color material, and further provided is an ink composition for writing instruments containing the above microcapsule color material. The microcapsule color material is characterized by containing at least a leuco dye, a developer and a discoloring temperature controller represented by the following Formula (I) : (wherein R1 and R2 represent an alkyl group having 7 to 21 carbon atoms, and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 7 carbon atoms).
