  The photophysical properties of 11 substituted 5‐(benzothiazol‐2‐yl)‐2′‐deoxyuridine derivatives and oligodeoxyribonucleotides (ODNs) containing dbtU are described.   Light up a match: A fluorescent uracil analogue, dbtUTP was synthesized and incorporated into primer/template duplexes by using primer‐extension reactions. We found that dbtUTP was site specifically incorporated into ODNs opposite adenine, and that dbtU in a template acted in an identical manner to dT in its base‐pairing pattern.
