  A new cyclohexenone annulation has been developed which involves the reaction of α-n-butylthiomethylene ketones with 1-lithio-1-methoxycyclopropane to afford α-n-butylthiomethylene spirocyclobutanones which, as their trimethylsilyl cyanohydrins, undergo thermal ring expansion.
