碱性染料,又称盐基性染料,是指芳香碱与酸(有机酸或无机酸)生成的盐,即有色的有机碱的盐类。其碱性基一般为氨基,形成—NH2·HCl盐基团,在水中离解成染料阳离子和酸根阴离子,因此又称为阳离子染料。
1856年,H.W. Perkin 合成了世界上第一个合成染料——苯胺紫,即属于碱性染料。此后相继出现了碱性品红(C.I.碱性紫14)、碱性蓝(C.I.碱性蓝9)、结晶紫(C.I.碱性紫3)、孔雀绿(C.I.碱性绿4)及罗达明(C.I.碱性紫10)等多种品种。碱性染料的化学结构类型多样,包括二芳甲烷、三芳甲烷、偶氮型以及含氮杂环化合物(如氧杂蒽、噁嗪和噻嗪等)。
由于碱性染料亲水基较少,因此不易溶解于水中。其溶解过程通常先用酒精或醋酸溶解,再用水稀释。碱性染料对温度较为敏感,在溶解、稀释及染色过程中应避免使用过高的温度。这类染料特别适用于带阴电荷的革(如植鞣革)的染色,主要用于对带阴离子的皮革(植物鞣革)进行着色,因其结合力较强。然而,由于其耐光和耐洗牢度较差,碱性染料在纤维上的应用较少,主要应用于纸张、色带及生物材料等的着色。此外,结晶紫、罗达明及噁嗪类染料还可用于热敏染料、压敏染料以及染料激光器等领域。
