    A new protopine alkaloid, protomexicine and a new isoflavonoid, mexitin, together with 8-methoxydihydrosanguinarine, 13-oxoprotopine, rutin and quercetrin have been isolated from the aerial part of the methanolic extract of Argemone mexicana.
