  Nucleophilic attack of Li(t)Bu on Ge-2[C(PMe(2))(2)(SiMe(3))](2) leads, via formation of {Li[C(PMe(2))(2)(SiMe(3))]}(2), to the novel tricycle Ge-4 [C(PMe(2))(2)(SiMe(3))](2)((t)Bu)(2), which contains a planar four-membered ring of Ge-I atoms. The compound was characterized by means of NMR spectroscopy and an X-ray diffraction study.
