  New 3,3-substituted spiro-1,2,4-benzothiadiazines of the formula 1, wherein X' is H or halo or trifluoromethyl, X2 is H, halo or -SO2NH2, R is H or lower alkyl, R is H or lower alkyl, R2 is lower alkyl or cycloalkyl, R1 and R2 may be joined to form - (CH2)-4or5,R3 is H, lower alkyl or aryl, m is 0 or 1 and n is 0 or 5 and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, are prepared by reacting an aniline compound of the formula II with a keton of the formula III, preferably in the ketal form, wherein the substituents of II and III are the same as described above, preferably in the presence of a mineral acid catalyst. The compounds I are provided in pharmaceutical antihypertensive compositions.
