  intermediates of two well-known natural products pyochelin and pyrrolnitrin. Herein we have accomplished the first biomimetic total synthesis of pyonitrins A-D in three steps and studied the nonenzymatic formation of the pyonitrins using 15N NMR spectroscopy.
