    The invention relates to a process for the stepwise synthesis of silahydrocarbons bearing up to four different organyl substituents at the silicon atom, wherein the process includes at least one step a) of producing a bifunctional hydridochlorosilane by a redistribution reaction, selective chlorination of hydridosilanes with an ether/HCI reagent, or by selective chlorination of hydridosilanes with SiCI4, at least one step b) of submitting a bifunctional hydridochloromonosilane to a hydrosilylation reaction, at least one step c) of hydrogenation of a chloromonosilane, and a step d) in which a silahydrocarbon compound is obtained in a hydrosilylation reaction.

  • Synthesis and Hole Transport Properties of Highly Soluble Pyrene-Based Discotic Liquid Crystals with Trialkylsilylethynyl Groups

    Four pyrene-based discotic compounds with trialkylsilylethynyl groups in the side chains were prepared and characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing optical microscopy, and X-ray diffraction measurements. All of the compounds were highly soluble in organic solvents, and two of the compounds exhibited a columnar phase, Colr, and the others were crystalline. The hole transport ability in the liquid-crystalline phases was determined by the time-of-flight (TOF) method to be on the order of 10-2cm2V-1s-1, the highest hole mobilities for pyrene derivatives yet observed.

    By using a new achiral phenylacetylene having bulky substituents as a monomer, living-like helix-sense-selective polymerization (HSSP) has been achieved. This is the first example of the HSSP of substituted acetylenes where the degree of polymerization was controlled. The resulting one-handed helical living polymer initiated polymerization of a second monomer to successfully yield a block copolymer. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
