In the presence of MS 4 A in DMSO, trifluoromethylation of various aldehydes and ketones with trifluoromethyltrimethylsilane (TMSCF 3 ) proceeded very smoothly to give the corresponding trifluoromethylated adduct in goodto quantitative yields without a base catalyst.
