Light-triggered reversible assemblies of azobenzene-containing amphiphilic copolymer with β-cyclodextrin-modified hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles for controlled drug release

Hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSs) were modified by β-cyclodextrin via a âclickâ reaction, an amphiphilic copolymer with a trans-azobenzene structure was then assembled onto β-cyclodextrin to cover the surface of the HMSs. The prepared nanocomposites can release drugs in a ârelease-stop-releaseâ manner by converting light irradiation.
Several kinds of novel azobenzene-containing tubular polymersomes were fabricated via self-assembly, and their shape could be tuned precisely by changing the chemical structure, self-assembly condition and external stimuli.

Herein, poly(2-(methacryloyloxy) ethyl ferrocene carboxylate-co-(methacrylohydroxyhexane azobenzene) s) (P(FHEMA-co-MAZOHE)s) were prepared by random copolymerization and were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 NMR) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) to confirm the structures and molecular weights respectively. Thermal variations were analyzed by thermogravimetric (TG), differential thermogravimetric (DTG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) techniques. Finally, redox and photo stimuli-responsive properties were confirmed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) respectively.
