Coprecipitation of iron and platinum(IV) hydroxo complexes as probed by Mössbauer spectroscopy

Stabilization of Fe-57 compounds in matrices of solid solutions of platinum(IV) superoxo- and hydroxo complexes was probed by Mossbauer spectroscopy. The ratio Fe-III/Fe-IV in these matrices is 20/1.

Here we report the formation of iron in hexavalent state, (FeO42-)-O-VI in ozonalysis of iron(III) in alkaline medium. The formation of tetrahedral (FeO42-)-O-VI ion is confirmed by UV-Visible and Mossbauer spectroscopic techniques. The value of isomer shift, delta, of the tetraoxy anion is consistent with known 6 values for various salts of iron(VI) ion. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
X-ray crystal structures and Mössbauer studies of some trismalonatoferrate(III) compounds

Three trismalonatoferrate compounds (20% enriched in Fe-57) NaBa (FeMa(3)). 3H(2)O (1), [Na-3 (FeMa(3))](2) . 8H(2)O (2), and Na-3(FeMa(3)). 8H(2)O . 1/2Sol (3) (Ma is the malonato anion and Sol is a solvate molecule) have been prepared and their X-ray crystal structures determined. The Mossbauer spectra exhibit a broadened line at 293 and 4.2 K indicating the presence of spin relaxation effects, The spectra data, fitted following Afanas'ev and Wickman models, point to the presence of spin-spin isotropic relaxation mechanism.
