1,2,3-Trimethoxybenzene reacts with BF4Mn(CO)5 in CH2Cl2 or ClMn(CO)5 in CF3CO2H then with HPF6 to afford 1,2,3-tri-methoxybenzene manganese tricarbonyl tetrafluoroborate 2aor hexafluorophosphate 2b, the X-ray structure of which indicates an arene nonplanarity and an eclipsed conformation of C1, C3 and C5 carbons; LiEt3BH, EtMgBr, and SiR3CHLiCN (R = Me, i-Pr) additions occur mainly on the C5 eclipsed
