CHRONIC TOXICITY OF FOOD RED NUMBER 102 WAS INVESTIGATED IN SLC-WISTAR RATS OF BOTH SEXES, SUPPLEMENTING DIET WITH 2% ADDITIVE. 20 MALES & 20 FEMALES /WERE/ STUDIED FOR 12 MONTHS. RATS FED RED NUMBER 3 GREW LESS THAN THESE FED RED NUMBER 102, WHILE THOSE FED RED NUMBER 3 & NUMBER 102 GREW COMPARABLE TO THOSE FED RED NUMBER 102. ONE FEMALE FED RED NO 102 DEVELOPED A LEIOMYOSARCOMA IN THE CECUM. IN CONTROL, ONE OUT OF 20 MALES & ONE OUT OF 20 FEMALES DEVELOPED FIBROMA IN THE SUBCUTANEOUS TISSUE. NO TOXICITY WAS EVIDENT IN RATS FED RED NUMBER 102.
