The invention relates to novel liquid crystal compounds of the general formulae I and II,
wherein are:
X1, X2 and X3fluoro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, nitro or a hydrogen atom,
RC1-10-alkyl or C1-10-alkoxy, which may be substituted,
Aa cyclohexane ring, a benzene ring, a dioxane ring, a pyrimidine ring or a bicyclo[2.2.2]-octane or -hexane ring,
Za single bond, an ester bond, an ether bond, methylene or ethylene,
and
n1 or 2.
The invention further relates to active matrix type liquid crystal display devices, particularly of the horizontal electric field type, comprising these liquid crystal compounds.
