Abstract The thermal decomposition of arsenopyrite in the presence of calcium oxide was studied using TG/FTIR. A fairly pure arsenopyrite mineral and an industrial arsenopyrite concentrate were examined in inert and oxidizing atmospheres. The decomposition takes place below 800°C with the release of arsenic and sulphur in a form that depends on the prevailing atmosphere and on the amount of CaO added
