  与人类宿主从头开始的生物合成相反，引起疟疾的寄生虫恶性疟原虫利用挽救途径进行核苷酸的生物合成。合成了22个2'，6'和5'-修饰的腺苷核糖核苷，期望这些化合物能由病原体产生有毒的代谢产物而不是活性核苷酸，同时在宿主细胞中保持惰性。用恶性疟原虫（K1株）进行的生物测定表明，对于最有效的类似物，IC50值低至110nM，针对L6大鼠成肌细胞系的细胞毒性的选择性指数大于1000。
